Three individuals had been killed in a head-on collision in Arizona Metropolis Monday afternoon, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Workplace stated. 

Durrell Smith, 26, was touring south on Sunland Gin Highway close to Battaglia Drive when his car crossed over the middle lane and crashed head-on right into a Ford SUV with two individuals inside, round 2:30 p.m., officers stated.

The passenger of the SUV, Joyce McNeil, 83, and Smith had been pronounced lifeless on the scene, the Sheriff’s Workplace stated. James McNeil, 83, the motive force of the SUV, was flown to a hospital the place he was later pronounced lifeless. 

The Sheriff’s Workplace stated the accident nonetheless was beneath investigation Monday night. Impairment was not an element, officers added.

The Sheriff’s Workplace stated all three weren’t carrying their seatbelts, which contributed to their deaths. 

The collision induced the closure of Sunland Gin between West Battaglia Drive and West Houser throughout the investigation.

Arizona Metropolis is situated about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson, west of Interstate 10 in Pinal County.
