ASHEBORO, N.C. (AP) — A child chimpanzee has been born on the North Carolina Zoo, including to a trickle of such births at U.S. zoos.
The zoo announced that the wholesome child was born Monday to a chimp named Gerre, and began nursing rapidly. The infant’s gender hasn’t been decided.
The announcement mentioned there have been solely two different profitable chimpanzee births previously two years at Affiliation of Zoos and Aquariums zoos. Since 2010, three have been born on the North Carolina Zoo.
Gerre is round 20 years outdated and got here to North Carolina in 2012 from the Dallas Zoo.
Jennifer Eire, the North Carolina Zoo’s mammal curator, mentioned the remainder of the chimp troop has been very curious concerning the new arrival.
