Boystown’s infamous “In-And-Out” is back in custody after breaking into *another* Lakeview home, police say

Ryan Brandis. Again. | CPD

Ryan Brandis may be the subject of more CWBChicago stories than any other person in our seven-year history.

We did a full profile of him — titled “50 shades of Ryan Brandis — in 2013.

He went to prison the next month for breaking into an untold number of apartment building laundry and bike rooms around Lakeview and Uptown.  Then, the state released him from prison early. And he quickly wound up back in custody.

That’s when we dubbed him the “In-And-Out Burglar” because he kept getting arrested for theft and burglary every time authorities released him from jail or prison.

He was sent back to prison in 2017 but got released early again last October.

On March 16, Chicago police issued a bulletin after Brandis went “missing” while on parole.

Police say they located the “missing” Brandis on Monday afternoon. Not surprisingly, they say he burglarized a Boystown residential building minutes before they found him.

A witness called 911 around 1:45 p.m. yesterday after they saw the 32-year-old kick in the front door of a home on the 800 block of West Cornelia, police said today. Neighbors helped cops locate Brandis on nearby Halsted Street, where he was taken into custody after a short foot chase.

Prosecutors charged Brandis with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft. He’s due in bond court on Tuesday afternoon.
