Coastal Perdido Key Left Severely Damaged by Hurricane Sally

Coastal communities in Florida’s panhandle surveyed the damage left behind by Hurricane Sally on Thursday, September 17. The storm had made landfall in Alabama on September 16 as a Category 2 hurricane before weakening to a tropical storm. Areas near the Alabama-Florida border were hit hard by the storm. Reports from Perdido Key show downed trees and power lines, damaged structures, and inches of floodwater. These videos show the flooding in Perdido Key, shared by resident Kimberly Drake, who said that she felt her house “twisting and shaking” for four hours during the storm on Wednesday. The footage, taken 24 hours after the storm hit, shows the impact of the rain and storm surge. “The wind was coming through the doors and windows and blowing my hair,” Drake told Storyful.
