A cyclist in his 30s suffered life-threatening injuries at the lunch hour following a collision with a large truck at the intersection of Wellington Street and and Lyon Street North.

The collision occurred at about noon.

An Ottawa police officer on the scene began providing emergency first aid.

Paramedics took over the scene and determined the victim had suffered “multi-system trauma.”

“While providing aggressive pre-hospital treatments … the patient was rapidly taken to the Trauma Centre in a condition deemed to be life-threatening,” paramedics said in a release.

Police said the department’s collisions unit had taken charge of the case. There was no indication that the driver had been detained.

Meanwhile, Ottawa police announced the intersection of Richmond Road and Fraser Avenue has been closed after a dump truck knocked down utility poles.

There was no estimate as to how long the intersection would be closed.

More to come.
