Garage fire in Wellington tackled by firefighters


Five fire trucks and crew were needed to battle a commercial garage fire in the Wellington suburb of Northland on Saturday.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze about 4.30pm.

By 5.30pm, the fire was out and one crew remained on the scene after hot spots were dampened down.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand central communications shift manager said the building, a commercial garage workshop, had been on fire when crews arrived.

She said the fire had covered an area of about 10 metres by 25 metres.

There were no reports of any injuries and the extent of damage to the garage building was unknown.

Police also attended the scene and a section of Northland Rd and Randwick Rd was closed for a period of time.
