The Montreal Canadiens are back at it, this time in the (American) nation’s capital.

It feels like an eternity ago when the Habs defeated the Capitals in their building, and things seemed right with the Habs. Now, the Habs and Caps meet Thursday night at the Capital One Arena in D.C. Montreal will likely miss the playoffs for the third straight year, and the fourth time in five years.

The Caps, meanwhile, find themselves battling the Pittsburgh Penguins for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.

Victor Mete won’t play tonight, or Saturday night against the Ottawa Senators.

Head coach Claude Julien says “there’s a good chance” Brendan Gallagher plays tonight.

Earlier in the day, the Canadiens traded Riley Barber and Phil Varone to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Joseph Blandisi and Jacob Lucchini.
