Man rescued hours after falling down a Gold Coast elevator shaft

“About 6.30am, someone from a balcony from above heard him call out for help and they called triple zero.”

Mr Kingsbury said firefighters and police brought the man to safety during the difficult rescue.

“Once they were able to extricate him from the shaft, which is about eight or nine metres long, we were able to access him,” he said.

“He had some thoracic back pain, some bruising there, what looked like a fractured hand, and some swelling there.

“He’s in good spirits though. He’s conscious, talking to us and interacting quite well.”
