A 48-year-old man escaped custody at the Auckland District Court on Monday morning.

A man who allegedly escaped custody at the Auckland District Court after posing as another prisoner who was being bailed has been located.

The 48-year-old patched gang member was located and arrested on Friday, five days after he allegedly escaped.

He had previously been remanded in custody and was taken to court to appear in relation to numerous charges on Monday morning.

Police revealed on Tuesday the charges related to burglary and assault.

The man is due to appear again in the Auckland District Court on Saturday and will face an additional charge of escaping custody.
