Emergency service officers gather around the vehicle involved in the car-versus-truck crash on State Highway 57 near Shannon on Saturday.
One person has died after a crash between a car and truck on State Highway 57.
A police spokeswoman said the collision happened just before 4pm on Saturday on the north-east side of Shannon.
The road, which was closed in both directions, has since reopened. Traffic was diverted from Shannon to Foxton.

Emergency services officers were gathered around the car when Stuff got to the scene, but no work was being done on the vehicle or any people.
Police were turning traffic back at the intersection of SH56 and SH57, but those who did need to drive through the area were diverted along Otauru Rd.
Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are underway.
