New York Emergency Doctor Vlogs Overnight Shift, Shows 'Respiratory Isolation Pod'

A New York City emergency doctor has offered insight into the city’s coronavirus fight by documenting a shift at the Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital in Manhattan. This video gives a look into Mount Sinai Beth Israel’s “dedicated respiratory isolation pod” during the overnight shift on April 10 and into April 11. The footage is narrated by Dr Erick Eiting, an emergency physician and the medical director for Mount Sinai Beth Israel’s emergency department. In the video, Eiting stressed the health disparities among coronavirus patients. He said hospital staff has been trying to better understand how to help people disproportionately affected by the virus. “People who are coming from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and racial and ethnic minorities tend to be more likely to get this disease and more likely to have to go to intensive care when they get the disease, or more likely to die from it when they do contract it,” Eiting says in the video. Eiting also says that during his shift there have been “plenty” of coronavirus patients exhibiting a variety of symptoms, with ages ranging from people in their twenties to eighties.
