New York police say they’ve arrested a person attempting to enter St. Patrick’s Cathedral with gasoline cans

NEW YORK — A New Jersey man has been arrested exterior St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York Metropolis with two jugs of gasoline.

Police say church personnel stopped the 37-year-old man from getting into the landmark cathedral in Manhattan at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities have been investigating whether or not the unidentified man is emotionally disturbed.

There’s presently a heavy police presence exterior the cathedral on Fifth Avenue. The incident comes simply days after flames ravaged the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which was inbuilt 1878, has put in a sprinkler-like system throughout current renovations and its wood roof is coated with hearth retardant.
