MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico’s new Nationwide Guard power has suffered its first casualty within the line of responsibility with the killing of an officer in a shootout with a gang.
The Nationwide Guard was launched in late June and is an amalgam of army police and federal police.
The federal Safety Division mentioned Saturday that three suspects have been killed within the confrontation in Yuriria township within the north-central state of Guanajuato. Nevertheless, the Yuriria municipal authorities mentioned 5 suspects have been killed within the shootout, three wounded and 7 detained.
The city mentioned the Nationwide Guard patrol was attacked when “they detected a secure home operated by a prison gang. One member of the Nationwide Guard was killed.”
Guanajuato has been hit by violence involving gangs that steal gasoline from authorities pipelines.
