City police urge the public to report any hate-motivated graffiti as its hate crime unit investigates a swastika that was discovered spray-painted on the sidewalk outside a home in Hintonburg on Canada Day.

The graffiti was reported at 7:52 a.m. Wednesday on Carruthers Avenue near Lyndale Avenue, which is near the intersection of Parkdale Avenue and Scott Street.

Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about it to come forward.

Police did not say if they believe if the hateful graffiti was targeted. It was quickly scrubbed away.

People should call 911 if they see a crime in progress but the discovery of potentially hate-motivated graffiti can be reported online.

Reports will get a quick response so officers can document the vandalism for their investigation and ensure it’s removed immediately, a police spokesman said. The services of the victim crisis unit can also be made available.
