Person injured after ‘high-speed’ crash into building in Southland

One person has been injured after a car crashed at “high speed” into a building near Invercargill.

A police spokesman said the crash happened on Rimu Rd, in Rimu, in Southland, at 7.59pm on Wednesday.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said fire crews were called to the scene because the engine of the car was on fire and a person was trapped inside the vehicle.

The person was cut out of the vehicle at 8.40pm, he said.

At St John spokesman said the person had moderate injuries.
