Two dead, one in critical condition in series of accidents on Quebec roads

Several people lost their lives or suffered serious injuries on Quebec roads on Saturday. Crashes have been reported in Estrie, Charlevoix and Bas-St-Laurent.

In Newport, in the Eastern Townships, a man in his thirties was found unconscious in his vehicle lying in the ditch along Route 212.

He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the accident. “We still do not know precisely when the accident would have occurred,” said agent Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

In the Charlevoix region, in Saint-Siméon, a quad rider lost his life. The emergency services were called around 7:30 p.m. for an accident involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) at the end of rue des Tours.

At the scene, the police found a man in his twenties, lifeless, trapped under his vehicle. The victim reportedly lost control of his ATV exiting a curve. His death was declared at the La Malbaie hospital.

A collision scene investigator was dispatched to the location to analyze the circumstances of the accident.

A little earlier, around 7:20 p.m., Sûreté du Québec had to intervene at an accident on the 6th row in Saint-Valérien in the Bas-Saint-Laurent.

The pickup truck traveling in a straight line on dry pavement allegedly swerved. The driver was alone, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
